I ranted about this in some rentry I had awhile back but I like to think about how trolls work a lot. Like, how they would function if they where to be a real speices. Not to the point of deep scientific logistics but just surface level stuff, I guess. I just have a lot of gripes when it comes to that, esp when I'm looking at fantrolls. Don't take that as me being judgemental though. I just enjoy picking it apart for fun, and half of what I think is right probably isn't even a canonical thing.
Like ok. For instance, and the one I think of the most on and off, gold blood eyes. I had an "argument" (more-so a short back and forth) with someone about this. I think gold bloods would all have colored eyes, whether it be dual colors or a pair of the same color. I feel like colored eyes in general should be a canonical thing for gold bloods, I don't know why it 'isn't' or isn't used often in fan work. Crossmound and Vast Error don't do it off the top of my head, even Hiveswap has one without colored eyes. It's just boring to me. You can't have a caste with such an ugly color be without anything to go with it. That isn't my main issue though, if they are psionicly gifted (have the best psychic prowess) don't their eyes show for that? I think thats what is going on with Sollux at least. I dunno, I think if they have a lesser psychic ability they should have homochromic eyes of the same color. It's more interesting that way.
Now the next thing, Fuchsia horns. I see a lot on fantroll blogs they would all have the same horns but let's be real, THAT. IS. BORING. if their horns reflect their sign it should be the same for them also, no? I feel like they would all have the same type of look, obviously, as each caste does.. but to say they would all have the same with minimal evidence is lame. Where is your critical thinking skills? (I say, like this matters at all to any degree.) I digress... The fact of the matter is they would be shaped gracefully with .. 'eased' curves? Curves that don't have sharp angles? I know there is a better word I'm thinking of. Horns that arc and bend in small ways with no sharp edges at all whatsoever. It reflects the Piexes at least, which is all anyone has to go off of.
Onto the next, which is a bit unseemly, troll nipples. Yeah. I don't know how else to put it. I see people talk about it every so often if they would or not. No. They wouldn't. Maybe on the blessed website of R34 but not in any other context. It makes no sense, expanding onto that I don't know why any of the female trolls would have breats. I know.. who doesn't like boobs.. But.. Cmon...... Cmon. Not happening. To get serious though, I know its a canonical thing (at least, in hiveswap) but to me it doesn't make sense. No need for that.
To make this less complainy, I found something I actually enjoyed within the fanwork side of the community, which is God-Tier shoes reflecting the aspect they strived for. I forgot the full exclamation they gave but it had examples of John and Rose where they bascially where going for each others aspects with how they went about things, but striving for one gave them the other in the process... If that makes sense. I think it's pretty much up for debate or up to the creator, since for instance Vriska has red shoes which is just another one of her luck related things. I think it's a neat thing to incorporate though into a character.
